There are a number of mistakes that many Newbies make when they first start trying to make money online.  I am going to outline some of those mistakes and look at some solutions.  If you are reading this as a Newbie, I hope I can save you some time, money and heartache.

Affiliate marketing can be a lucrative business if it is done well.  Many Newbies attempt it by grabbing a link and promoting a product. it seems easy, no need to produce a new product, the links are there, sample adverts and even the website is free.  However, the average buyer might need to see a product two or three times before buying.  So the affiliate gets a visitor, he clicks off and then searches in Google to go back and have another look.  This time the visitor goes back to the main site and buys.  Guess what?  He does not go back to the affiliate site and buy there, and the Newbie has spent valuable time and money promoting and does not even make a dime.

Solution:

Get creative, make your own splash page, cloak the link and keep your own identity.  Make it easy for your customers to remember you. A strong splash page is essential.  It should load quickly, grab attention and have a strong and clear call to action.  The best way of getting traffic to it is to include a video.  If you do this you can chuck it out all over the web instantly with Traffic Geyser and you can watch your splash page swim effortlessly to the top of Google in a flash.  Traffic Geyser will submit it with your back links to loads of sites automatically saving you hours of work.

Splash pages should exist above the fold and include a banner, an image or video,  a bit of compelling text and an opt in box. That’s it.  These days they are so easy to make.  You can create a real winner on in minutes easily and cheaply.  This way, you can control your own meta tags and make sure you have your own branding included.  I will tell you how you can make a page in a minute.

Next you need to get your shiny new splash page in front of loads of hungry surfers.  Where do they hang out?  Well let’s see.  Most surfers are looking for something that will save time, make something easier and save or make money.  They are often offering something and want more traffic.  They hang out in traffic exchanges.  Traffic exchanges do work, but only if you are able to create instant attraction, curiousity and a compelling call to action in an instant. Well about 3 seconds.  You can do all this if you follow the correct formula and have good copy and understand the psychology of the surfer.

Now a lot of people think that Traffic Exchanges don’t work.  This is absolutely not true.  I have had very targeted traffic from them and I know one guy who has made a killing.  William Brant has made shed loads of money and is set to retire when he comes out of the forces…In fact he has gone on to set up two of his own exchanges.  He has written a report that will accelerate your success and stop you from making mistakes.  If you want to know how to use exchanges effectively, I suggest you read it. Trying to use them without knowing how to is a waste of time.

They exist in lots of guises these days, do your homework and check out the credible ones. Getting back to the splash pages, make sure you have one for each link that you are promoting.  I recommend Splash Page Maker, they are simple to use and they have an excellent support system.  Yesterday they emailed me back within minutes of me raising a ticket.

When you are building your pages remember to brand yourself.  This is really important and you need to do this if you are ever to be successful.  you must build trust with your readers, visitors and create a desire for them to buy from you.  You should use a photo of yourself or your logo and make sure that this gets used in absolutely everything you do.  Otherwise your time and effort will be wasted and you will just be promoting someone elses goods.

you need a routine.  Be disciplined and do things consistently.  Everyday I start with my emails, then work my facebook and Twitter accounts, then my traffic exchanges, then write an article, update my sites and then set aside some time to learn something.  But the key word in there is every day. Now this is work.  It is not automated and it is not get rich quick, it is however get rich!  I now employ someone to do some of my writing for me which frees me up to do more learning.  I am continually learning, it is part of working in a constantly changing industry.  please do not make the mistake that it will be effortless or automated.  You will give up.  However, it does allow you to work from home and have the freedom to create your own work schedule.

Give something away for free, make sure it is valuable and it is best if it is original.  Remember to create curiosity and a call to action.

Avoid distraction and overwhelm.  It is too easy to be sidetracked by the latest amazing thing that will make you tons of money.  Stick with the program!  If there is time left over, check those things out that you are curious about!

Lastly make sure that you include back links in everything and that you track them.  Know what is working for you and put more energy into that. Know what doesn’t and knock it on the head.  Oh and this really is the last thing, make sure you are properly set up to receive payments.  Otherwise you’ve wasted all that time and effort!

To your success,

Kay
